1/7/2020

January is and odd month. Everyone is recovering from the holidays, trying to figure out what 2020 will bring, and still trying to move forward. This early in January marks a time when a lot aren’t that busy and are preparing for what is to come.

This is the time we have to be at our best. We are “busy”, whatever that actually means.

For wine, we will see an uptick in the market come Valentine’s Day, but really not until spring break ish do we really start rolling. You would think that means we don’t have much to do until then…

I believe this is the most important time of the year for us. The time between Christmas Day of the year before and Valentine’s Day of the next year. We have to get all of our processes, materials, marketing…. EVERYTHING we have to have ready to go… ready to go.

I guess we don’t HAVE To do that. We choose to. This helps us stay ahead. This helps us set ourselves apart. It is really easy to be out in the summer time with wine, and have someone say “Hey, can you send me over some training materials for the wines we just bought?”. The easy response would be, “Yeah let me get that over to you!”

What most do, is scramble to throw something together and send over a half baked deck or doc to just get the information to the person who asked.

We can’t be like that. The best already have those things done, so we are going to work endlessly until we have them ready.

Nothing makes selling something easier than knowing you have everything prepared. Everything possible.

So on a Tuesday in January when it seems slow, find a way to pick up the pace. Find an excuse to make everything better.

If you operate in 2020 the same way you did in 2019 you will be…the same.

The same will always leave you behind. Adapt. Get better. And rise to the top.
