Each Tuesday night at 9pm ET for four weeks last November, I would pop open a bottle of Ferrari Trento wine and engage in sparkling conversation with other wine professionals who were enjoying the same wine in the comfort of their own homes. We were part of a #winestudio Twitter chat sponsored by Protocol Wine Studio. We had a fast paced conversation about the winery, the terroir, the environmental practices in the vineyards, and the wine itself — the beautiful, lovely bubbly that comes from Ferrari, Wine Enthusiast’s 2015 European Winery of the Year.

The online conversations were educational and fun with participants posting photos of food pairings and connecting with each other. I added a little extra fun to the equation. I opened up the hour-long tasting and chat to my neighbors. Each evening, we’d pop the cork, try some pairings, and catch up as I participated in the Twitter chat and added their comments to the discussion — getting the thoughts of non-wine professionals added another layer to the experience for me. They were introduced to new wine, and I got my hostess fix. I love to have friends over.

Starting next week, I’ll be at it again. This time the #winestudio participants will be completely immersed Albariño from Rias Baixas. Again, I’ve invited my neighbors to pop in for the hour. (Truth be told, we always went past the hour last time, opening another bottle or two). Together, we’ll explore over 40 Rias Baixas wines — 120 characters at a time — learning the history of the region, delighting in stories of the winemakers, comparing bottles, talking terrior and diving into the deep end of this Spanish DO renowned for the Albariño grape.

It’s the perfect time of year for this discussion. Albariño is a lovely wine for spring and summer. Anyone can learn from the conversation by following the hashtag #winestudio starting April 5 at 6pm PT (9pm ET) and each Tuesday evening at the same time for 8 more weeks.
