A Very Winnow Spring

It’s spring in Bermuda, and yeah admittedly, the water is still a little too cold to dive in (at least for Bermudians) and the summer fun isn’t in full swing. And while we all hotly anticipate our first swim of the year, that doesn’t matter because Bermudians absolutely love spring. Here are our top reasons why…

One. Cool Pastel Days

All the beauty of summer without the need to escape into the air conditioning! Stunning crystal calm waters, soft pastel days, and crisp evenings throughout April, May and early June. An aesthete’s dream, Bermuda’s spring most certainly has the ability to rival its more famous sister, summer, particularly for those looking to indulge in the the island’s painterly light in full temperate comfort from morning to evening. Additionally, the cooler climes mean it is the perfect time for a round of golf or a game of tennis.

Two. Time for Culture

When faced with the choice of a gallery visit or an afternoon on the water in the middle of a hot summer’s weekend, we can understand why one might forego a bit of cultural enrichment for seawater. However, without the pull of the ocean, locals and visitors alike have more time for culture. This time can be used to explore the island’s incredible art collections, to take inspiration from our beautiful architecture, or simply get a first-hand look at some of the masterpieces that reflect our island’s beauty and culture.

Three. The Start of Social Season

The exhaustion of the the long holiday season is long forgotten and the hype of summer celebrations seem far off, so it feels like the right time to kick the social season gently back into gear. This is the perfect time of year for a casual cocktail at a friend’s house or an early evening cocktail cruise to catch up and ease oneself back into the social season before the real partying begins.

Four. Empty Beaches

Our beaches are beautiful all year around no matter what, nevertheless it is an indisputable fact that there are few greater pleasures than a whole beach to yourself, and in the spring, before everyone breaks out the sunblock, the beaches are there for the picking! Long evening strolls and warm afternoon picnics overlooking the breaking waves without the glaring heat are the perfect antidote to the winter months! A beach to one’s self is not only the ultimate in personal luxuries, it too serves as a perfect moment of mindfulness — an escape and a pause from the distraction of daily life.

Two of our favourite public beaches to escape to are Warwick Long Bay at the west end of the island or Long Bay on Cooper’s Island at the island’s east.

Five. The Bloom

People will tell you how incredible the beaches are and how inspiring the seemingly endless seascapes are, and they would be right. But I bet they didn’t point out how gorgeous the island’s gardens and plant life are? It’s true, Bermuda’s in-land magnificence is often overlooked despite the fact that the island is home to some of the most wonderful tropical gardens.

Whether you are interested in strolling through a private garden or you are looking to get up close and personal with the thriving wilderness, there is something for everyone.
