Vinh Hy and the Nui Chua Coastal Road
Vinh Hy is one of those places where the journey was better than the destination.
I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of these during our time in Vietnam.
Not that Vinh Hy was a bad place just the scenery leading to and from it were stunning.
A lovely smooth winding road with the mountains on the left and the sea on the right. The views, the cool sea breeze in your face, the deserted roads.
The perfect place for a motorbike ride.
We arrived in Vinh Hy from Mui Ne just before dark. It was a good 6 hour day of traveling due to our continued streak of visiting the mechanic. The problem I got fixed in Mui Ne reoccurring but this time I got it fixed for a fraction of the cost. Doug also needed a replacement chain.
One day soon we will have a day without the mechanic. I hope.
The only accommodation we could find was a full-on resort complete with two pools. For 10 dollars each, we got a room with two beds, a decent shower, and a tv. A big step up from the tents and open-air mattresses we had gotten used to.
The only problem was the bar closed at half 9. Pretty ridiculous for a resort with over 80 rooms. As Vinh Hy has largely remained untouched from tourism there was nowhere else in the tiny fishing village open. So there wasn’t a great deal to do in the evening. We ate some tasty local food down by the harbour and ended up watching movies from my laptop. Bronson and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
The resort was a good rest stop, we stayed two nights.
We had planned to use our full day to get a boat out and explore the bay. But the language barrier proved difficult so instead, we took our motorbikes in search of a beach.
We ended up at a lake/ reservoir in the mountains instead.
We inevitably ended up at the mechanics. Doug dropped his bike and broke the clutch handle. We also had our engine oil changed for the first time. Replacing a black sludge with a clear amber liquid.
We discovered the day after, on leaving Vinh Hy, that all the nice beaches were in the opposite direction. I was kicking myself about this because there looked like some beauties to explore. All we could do was admire them from the road.
This stretch of road has been the best of our trip so far. Here is the route, if you have a motorbike in Vietnam I suggest you check it out.
Next, we are heading to into the mountains. To Dalat. I have heard good things.
