Apple introduced CallKit framework together with iOS 10 and it allows VOIP apps like Wire to natively show incoming calls on the phone lock screen. It’s a great step forward for better user experience and fewer missed calls.

However, last week Forbes reported that Apple keeps a log of all calls on iCloud for up to 4 months. With iOS this also means calls from VOIP apps that have implemented CallKit.

We knew that this was not going to be acceptable for users who’ve chosen Wire for our focus on privacy. And that’s why you can switch CallKit off in the Settings. If you do this then you’ll be alerted about incoming call with a notification as usual if your phone is locked.
