Why we should replace the term ‘powering through’ with ‘moving forward’

It goes without saying that the world has turned upside down by the pandemic. Before continuing writing this blog, I hope that you and everyone surrounding you is healthy and safe.

Coming into the context of this blog. In times like these, we are all facing new challenges. And where some businesses are experiencing a downturn, a couple of industries are thriving. As a marketing strategist for a digital agency, I see and hear a lot about efforts businesses can look into and execute to survive this pandemic.

Moving forward instead of powering through

In these disruptive times, surviving as a business is what we all aim for. Yet, in my opinion, we have to change our mindset from powering through to moving forward. But instead of rushing forward like a bull in a china shop, take a step back. Allow yourself to break away from the current situation for a moment in order to look at the big picture. Do this and you’ll be able to make decisions that will not only help you power through the current situation, it will also help you move your business forward in the long run.

When it comes to recalibrating your marketing plans for now and the future, here is some food for thought:

1.Don’t panic. Don’t rush. Take a step back.
Am I serious? Yes. Whether your business is part of a hot industry or is being affected by the current situation, take a step back. Get into a helicopter-overview to analyze the current situation of your business. Where do you stand now, where do you wish to go and what do you need to get there. Though having a short-term strategy is great, you shouldn’t forget to look at the bigger picture. This way, you’ll not only power through the situation but start building a solid foundation for the world we’ll step into after COVID-19 loosens its grip on our society.

“Get into a helicopter-overview to analyze the current situation of your business. Where do you stand now, where do you wish to go and what do you need to get there.”

2. Keep building your brand presence.
Whatever choices you make now for your business or brand, will affect the outcomes in the long-term. A lot of businesses tend to cut marketing budgets in challenging times like these. Why should I consider keeping investing in brand presence now, you might ask. The reasons are the same as ever. One, stay visible for potential clients in search of a solution, service or product. And two, stay visible for your current followers and customer base to build trust and maintain relationships.

3. Don’t forget your existing customer base.
Since I mentioned your current customer base, let’s make a little bridge here. Whilst you might have been focussing on your sales pipeline growing tighter and tighter, your focus might have slipped away from your current customers. Let me spill the beans here: just like other businesses and brands, they too are facing challenges. To lower the risk of losing them and maintaining strong relationships, you have to stay in touch, be relevant and offer value.

Marketing automation — for example — can help your offer relevant and personalised content to your current customers. Learn more about it by clicking this link.

4. Take step at the time.
Though things are changing rapidly, don’t feel pushed to rush into any efforts in an attempt to keep the show on the road. The world is changing, make sure you’re ready whatever is going to be next by experimenting with new efforts and methods. Break your ideas and efforts into pieces and test to see what works. And also, to measure what doesn’t work. Learn from your efforts, recalibrate and keep repeating this until you have found methods that are beneficial to you, your team and our organization.

There are a lot of tools you can use to monitor your efforts in order to optimise them. We describe some of the Wirelab favourites here.

Let’s connect!
Everybody is confronting new challenges and finding ways to power through these times. Instead of pacing up speed and competition, let’s find ways to recalibrate our efforts by sharing ideas and advice together.

So, if you have any questions or advice to share, please feel free to add them in the comments of this blog so we can open up a discussion. Looking to expand your network to brainstorm on how we can power through this together? Visit the Wirelab Digital Agency website for more info on this topic and the possibility to schedule a meeting with one of our consultants.

Stay safe. Stay positive.
