Workplace Health and Safety Practices | Human Resource Management
I wrote this essay as part of my HRM class
Over the past decades, the literature written for Human Resource Management (HRM) practices has been vast. It had influenced organizational performance into using HRM practices (Browne, 2000). In the recent ever changing and fast-paced workplace, maintaining competitive advantage can paramount to success. This paper will cover my suggestions to improve employee’s (1) safety and (2) wellness in the workplace.
I suggest having regular meetings on workplace safety. Consistently learning about safety will time and time again perfect employees’ response when something happens. Regular meetings review safety rules and prevention (Hopkins, 2018). This is very necessary to protect employees. As well, I suggest implementing safety protocols from the start. A safe workplace means that employees are following safety requirements and performing their jobs with the procedures in mind (Hopkins, 2018). Physical therapists can help analyze and determine the physical demands of each job role (to know how one physical a job is).
I recommend structuring the workplace into improving the health and well-being of employees. Health monitoring can be done by the company. This will monitor multiple vital health metrics such as their BMI, body fat level, blood pressure, and heart. The data created will help provide in-depth information on how to improve health and wellness. This will make employees understand the decisions they have to make to live a much more healthier lifestyle (Lewis, n.d.). To understand their own personal health, and the effects a healthy diet can have on it. These small changes, when compounded, lead to excellences.
Well-being is significant, not only individual employees in terms of maintaining their own overall health, but also to managers and organizations because of the evidence saying that a poor well-being at work will result in adverse effects on performance and productivity (Kowalski, & Loretto, 2017). We should always rely on the effectiveness of these evidence.
