It has been quite an exciting week at Wyzerr, from closing some key deals to winning a pitch competition in Nashville. Two of our founders traveled a few hours down to Nashville, TN to participate in the 36|86 South conference. This was the first time anyone from Wyzerr attended 36|86 South so they were unsure about what to expect from the event. In the end, they were really impressed by the sessions, networking opportunities, facilities, and the other start-ups competing. Most importantly, it resulted in quite a few sales and investor leads. Our chief hacker, Natasia, said “It was by far the most productive and resourceful entrepreneurship event I’ve been to in a very long time.”

For the 36|86 startup competition, 35 startups from around the Southeast competed in two rounds. The first round was a 2-minute fast pitch that was judged by the audience. The top five teams advanced to the second round where their fate was decided by a panel of judges who were all investors.

Altos Ventures, Anthony Lee

Battery Ventures, Logan Bartlett

Canaan Partners, Michael Gilroy

NEA, Arjun Aggarwal

North Bridge Venture Partners, Paul Santinelli

Schematic Ventures, Julian Counihan

Valor Ventures, Lisa Calhoun

The judges scored the pitches based on the following key areas:

  • Market
  • Solution — product/market fit
  • Business Model
  • Validation / Traction
  • Management team
  • X Factor

While winning was a great experience for the team, we think Natasia’s favorite part is carrying around the giant check:

If you get the chance to attend this event in the future, we definitely recommend it. For now, it is time for us Wizards to get back to work and put that $50K to good use building our brand and making our customers wiser!
