This week’s Hunter Moon signifies the gathering of sustenance and planning for the winter months ahead. As we head into the final days of our Kickstarter campaign for our newest title, Marlie McGovern’s A Body Made of Eyes: Contemplative Essays, it’s a fitting time to be hunting for the dreams, the rooting — and most of all the stories — that will sustain us through the cold months ahead.

We’re very grateful for those who have preordered this collection of Marlie’s delicate, introspective, essays that look deeply at the practices of reading and writing: “The intricacies of coming-into-being are made material as I read—language seams and unseams,” she writes in the essay A Flower in a Diamond, exploring her family’s quilting legacy and the running stitch — an em dash — in Claudia Rankine’s Plot.

Today, there are still copies left of A Body Made of Eyes, and an accompanying meditation to further experience the joys of reading Marlie’s work.

As Wendell Berry points out, “Language passes in at the eyes, out at the mouth, in at the ears; the words are immersed and steeped in the senses of the body.” In A Body Made of Eyes, Marlie evokes this reality of words being of the body. Her recorded guided meditation, made especially for the book release, takes this a step further as she guides the listener through a journey of mind and body becoming one sensing being and the “iridescence hovering between.”

Don’t miss your opportunity to preorder this beautiful linen hardbound book, just in time for the cooler days and cozier evenings of winter.
