A Local Band, Singing, Playing and Telling Jokes — Gelani Banks

Have you heard the story?

Twelve boys and their coach went cave exploring.

The monsoon rains in the region came earlier than expected and they were 2.5km deep and half a mile undergrounder.

Trapped.

Underground.

Cold and Dark.

I’ll save the suspense.

The story ends on a positive note as all the children and their coach were rescued alive.

This is one of the greatest rescue stories of our generation, if not our lifetime.

Hundreds of people worked around the clock to make this possible.

Of those hundreds, 70 divers were important to the mission.

Of those 70, one was irreplaceable.

Richard Harris.

What made Richard Harris so unique to this mission?

Richard is a cave diving expert.

He’s special not because of his hobby, but because of his career.

He’s also an anesthesiologist

One of a handful of people in the world who could dive and administer sedatives.

He was called to Thailand for something that had never been done before.

Provide anesthesia to the trapped boys and guide them unconsciously and safely through water.

The idea was ludicrous.

Surely a few would die during the 3 hour swim.

But if they didn’t try, all 13 lives would be lost.

This was the safest way.

Any other solution would be fatal.

It’s pretty hard to be the best Cave Diver in the world

Probably even harder to be the best anesthesiologist in the world as well.

But when you join two rare skills together to make the rarest skill of them all.

You quickly become the best because you are the only one.

He is the best cave diving anesthesiologist to walk this earth.

And now you can add life saver to his resume.

We all have skills.

At first glance our skills may not seem like much.

But if we can skill stack, the combination of our skills make us unique.

Don’t tell yourself you don’t have a a unique skillset.

We are all one of a kind.

Happy Skill Stacking!

Enjoy Your Walk

I learned of this idea of skills stacking in this article by Tomas Pueyo
