When we heard the Magic City Hippies were coming to our favorite small music venue, my wife and I jumped at the chance to see them live. We found a spot maybe 30 feet from the stage and commenced to hold our ground as the place filled up, standing for four hours on hard concrete. We appeared to be the only people in our 60s (see the video below) amid a very young, energetic crowd. We may not be young, but we’re not interested in behaving like caricatures of old people, either.

Apparently, a lot of people do concern themselves with the stereotypes of aging, worrying about “acting their age,” whatever that means. Last week, as an example of the negative obsessions with aging, Google announced the top searches in the past year that started with “am i too old for …”

  • college?
  • lasik?
  • braces?
  • a nose ring?
  • law school?

I’ll answer each one: No!

The truth is people these days are a lot more adventurous into their 60s and beyond than in the “old days.” One survey even suggests
