Are You Part of the Exhausted Majority? Here’s How to Cope

No need to freak out, America. Here’s how to tune out the noise of this election and tune into the joy.

For many Americans these days, politics means pain. Each day seems to unleash a new deluge of fundraising pleas, conspiracy theories, attack ads, and even assassination attempts. The result is a collective weariness…a deep, bone-tired mental exhaustion that leads to feeling physically drained and emotionally depleted.

A recent poll from the American Psychological Association (APA) found 73% of US adults say they’re anxious about the 2024 election. Likewise, Pew Research found that 65% of Americans feel exhausted when discussing politics. When asked to summarize their feelings in a word or phrase, 79% used negative or critical words, with “divisive” and “corrupt” emerging most frequently.
