New ‘Valentine Scale’ Measures Your Love
Answer 7 questions to get a scientifically validated sense of how your relationship is going
Romantic relationships are so loaded with ups and downs that it can be difficult to gauge how it’s truly going, in the grand scheme, and how your experiences stack up against the love that binds other couples.
That in mind, Swedish scientists announced today a “scientifically validated scale” to measure relationship health. It’s simple: You answer seven questions and the online love analysis engine spits out a score. The questions involve topics like collaborating, confiding, and conflict resolution, as well as closeness and overall satisfaction.
“This scale makes it possible to quickly and efficiently get an idea of how a relationship is doing,” said Per Carlbring, professor of psychology at Stockholm University.
The Valentine Scale, as they’ve dubbed it, is based on published research by Carlbring and colleagues that found it to be a reliable indicator. However, we should consider the results to be suggestive, “not an objective truth,” they cautioned in a statement. “The Valentine’s scale should be seen as a tool for reflection and dialogue, not as a definitive assessment of the future of the relationship.”
