We’re All Sick of the News. So Why Do We Keep Consuming it So Voraciously?

The news is exhausting. But it’s gonna get worse real soon. So I’ve got a suggestion that’s practically guaranteed to make you happier. And none of this is news.

This is not a news story. Please don’t think of this as news. If you perceive it as news, you might not want to read it, and you’d be wise to avoid it. Especially if it’s about politics. Or the end of the world. This story is not about politics. Please don’t think of this as a political story. And don’t be frightened: There are no new indications the world will end soon.

This is just a routine, totally non-newsy story about the fact that a lot of Americans are exhausted by the news, and frustrated by all the misinformation out there and the difficulty in figuring out what’s true and what’s not, and this leads them to back away from the news, to consume less.

That’s what a new study finds. Correction: It’s not a new study. Don’t think of it as new.
