Why Women Should Lose Weight Like a Man
What if everything you’ve been told about weight loss is wrong?
As winter comes to an end and more people have started planning for their summer vacations, the topic of weight loss has popped up in many of my conversations with my friends.
“I can’t seem to lose weight as easily as I used to. I think I’ll do a 3-day cleanse and fast,” my friend, Lisa shared. “It’s usually the fastest way to drop some weight. I’ve also increased my running and started intermittent fasting, although that hasn’t helped so far.”
Coincidentally that same week, I was talking to another friend, Justin. He’s also a runner trying to lose some extra weight. However, while they both decided to make changes in the same areas — diet, exercise, and supplementation — their specific actions were completely opposite. Justin was actually going to eat more (especially protein) and run a lot less.
Their differing strategies prompted me to talk to more people who were trying to lose weight, and a gender divide soon emerged: Most of the women I talked to were focused on losing fat to look thin while most of the men I spoke to wanted to gain lean muscle so they could look strong.
