If you start your morning with a cup of coffee or tea, you are holding in your hand the key to going into your day centered and calm. Drinking your first cup with mindfulness is a way to slow your thoughts down and just rest in the moment. Most of us start our mornings rushing around, caught up in our thoughts about all we have to do and feeling frazzled trying to get out the door.

What if you could change that pattern simply by paying attention to your morning brew? We all know we need moments to breathe, but a lot of us can’t seem to carve out the time for sitting in meditation. Using your coffee time as meditation is a great way to incorporate mindfulness into your day without adding one more thing you “should” be doing, but aren’t.

Meditation and mindfulness are enjoying a surge of popularity, in part due to studies that show the tremendous benefits of both. Just a few of the empirically supported advantages of mindfulness include stress reduction, less rumination, increased empathy and improved relationships.

Sitting meditation is only one of the ways to achieve a state of mindfulness. Mindfulness without a formal sitting meditation can be achieved…
