When does a relationship begin to go down?

Everyone is falling in love and everyone ( or most of us ) has certainly experienced a breakup. In this article, we’re wondering what’s driving a relationship to break up

It’s the year 2021 and we’re now having another year starting with a pandemic that keeps affecting the whole world but we managed somewhat within a year to find a cure and maybe get back to normal life.

During that time, we had time to sit down to reflect on human relationships with our friends and family members. When I asked people what makes the relationship less exciting, people would usually answer me a simple word : time.

Time is the main reason why people are breaking up. Really?

To me, that’s a generic answer and I decided to deep dive and look at something from a different angle as I met several people with different stages in their relationships.

What I mostly realized is people that are still together and happy are people who can understand each other’s needs. They want to help and care for each other.

If you’re in a relationship and you both want to see each other, then you usually text each other or call each other to meet up. That’s easy in the beginning, it’s harder later.

So when does it stop? When do you stop wanting to meet each other again?

To me it’s not really time but it’s about when the couple is together without any purpose. They’re together and don’t really know why they are now spending time together.

That’s when you will experience the end in your relationship and you will start to stop wanting being with your partner. The problem is that it’s not obvious and you won’t have a relationship thermometer.

It will start with some small things. You’ll be fine and you’ll let that enter in your relationship and like cancer it reaches different stages until the relationship will simply die.

What should I do to keep my relationship going then?

In order to make your relationship grow healthily, it is necessary to design intentionally some moments where you can be fully available for your partner to connect with each other.

Spending time together to connect is key

If you’re spending time with your partner but you’re still being bugged by phone calls, text messages, emails, push notifications and so on, you’ll have a hard time to get some quality time.

These moments need to be frequent enough for both partners to appreciate the relationship and need to be discussed as I don’t have a formula. That’s when the relationship may be healthy enough for you to avoid a sour breakup.

Reducing the moments with your partner where you are together and busy doing some work or other things is also a must. As a man, I don’t usually enjoy shopping as an activity but I can see that women usually like it. That’s great and women shall have their own time doing so. That’s the same thing for men, we like to play soccer and most women will not enjoy such activity. We need to do our things and feel that we’re free enough.

How’s your relationship going? Do you think it’s going to the right direction?
