Introducing Language Identification!

Today, we’re excited to launch a new API: GET /language! This endpoint returns the n-best detected locales for the provided message, with confidence. Wit.ai can identify 132 languages to help make building a truly global multilingual app faster, easier and more efficient.

By using the GET /language API, you will no longer need to implement complicated logic to determine a user’s input language. You can simply route the user’s request to your specific wit app for that identified language, or respond with a message when an unsupported language is identified. This will improve the user experience while saving you time and effort to implement complex language identification logic. You can find our documentation here.

We’ve also fully integrated language identification into built-in NLP to return the n-best identified locales and detected entities in the top locale within the Messenger Platform. Starting today, you’ll automatically get the detected locales for each message. Check it out!

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, comments or suggestions.

Thank you for being part of this journey!
