Witchcraft names are a popular idea that lots of people from different corners of the world are embracing. This isn’t the Ursula and Maleficent from Disney movies.

A witch name seeks to embrace all that is special in the world of magic.

And witches aren’t alone. Choosing a unique name for spiritual or religious reasons dates back to the dawn of time and is a concept embraced by faiths everywhere.

Witchcraft Names as Baby Names

More than one and a half million Americans identify under the banner of Neopaganism, and that number is rising. The number of other practitioners of magic everywhere is on the rise as well. Many seek to name their children without using names claimed by or steeped in different cultural and religious traditions. Some Christianized names have fallen out of favor in English-speaking countries because of this.

Witchcraft names like Rowan or Raven have replaced many common or religious names. You also might see the rise in popularity of names related to nature, especially seen with jewel names for girls like Jade and Amethyst.
