Did the war affect the development of the IT industry in Ukraine? This question is not only about statistics. This is a question for each specific specialist. And this is a question about how the requirements for specialists in the field of IT are changing.

On January 2022, the main IT companies were located in the largest cities of Ukraine: Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa. At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion there were almost 280,000 specialists. But during the war, according to the IT RESEARCH RESILIENCE study, from 50,000 to 57,000 specialists went abroad. About 7,000 more specialists ended up in the ranks of the Armed Forces. On the one hand, the IT industry is one of those where specialists are least attached to the workplace. On the other hand, a shortage of specialists has developed on the Ukrainian market.

The average salary in the industry is $2,360. At the same time, the average age of a specialist in the field is 31 years. And yes, the majority (dominant majority) of specialists are men. We will not talk about gender equality now, we will just talk about numbers.

According to IT Research Resilience, 85% of surveyed companies said that as of May, they managed to fully or almost completely resume business activity that existed before February 24. 63% of companies noted a positive financial result, and 13% — an increase in income in the range of 25–50%.

The IT industry in Ukraine is developing. And let’s hope that the war will not stop this development.
