Correspondence to “War-Ravaged” Portland

As the MAGA Administration threatened to deploy 200 National Guard troops to Oregon’s biggest city for a 60-day deployment in retribution for state investigations into ICE’s local violations, “authorizing ‘full force’, if necessary”, Governor Kotek filed a federal lawsuit. Kotek then held a press conference with Attorney General Dan Rayfield and Portland Mayor Keith Wilson to unequivocally state that there is no danger and a military deployment not only without the governor’s request but against the governor’s direct orders was a violation of the Posse Comitatus Act: the president cannot mobilize the military as a domestic police force.
While our elected officials utilized legal opposition within their jurisdiction, Portlanders, fellow Oregonians, and allies around the world took to the internet to disprove the false narrative of the “war-ravaged” city with gorgeous photography and fun videos for a hilarious, and now viral accounting of the peaceful, beautiful truth on the ground. There is no lawlessness, there is no danger warranting military intervention.
