Representative Al Green and American Integrity

“If you get in the way, if you’re arrested, then you’ve got to be willing to suffer the consequences. I did it from my heart, and I will suffer whatever the consequences are. But truthfully, I would do it again.”

At the first congressional address by Trump 2.0, a Houston congressman waited less than two minutes to speak his conscience. And just as quickly, his Republican colleagues jeered at him like a rival at a middle school rally.

During the March 4th, 2025 address, one of the few things Representative Al Green stated was, “You have no mandate to cut Medicaid,” but was drowned out almost immediately by Republican legislators clapping and chanting “U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” and “Sit down!”¹

Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson warned the longtime representative twice that he would be removed if he continued.

Nevertheless, he continued.

While his Democratic colleagues sat quietly with an assortment of paddles with dissenting statements printed on them, a few wore t-shirts that said “Resist” on the back, and the Democratic Women’s Caucus wore hot pink to protest harmful policies against women, Green was the only one who stood up and spoke…
