The Noble Scavenger Hunt
Snow days. Every teacher loves them… until they become repetitive. As I was browsing Pinterest last night for inexpensive ideas to help us venture out of the house, I came across the blog The Road to 31. She had several ideas, but there was one in particular that sparked my interest. She had proposed doing a scavenger hunt in a local library.
We love books and love scavenger hunts, so this sounded like a really fun idea. We decided to take on our scavenger hunt at Barnes and Noble in Johnson City. We chose the ‘How well do you know me?’ scavenger hunt. This was actually more challenging than I thought it would be. How well do you really know your significant other? Sure, Nathan and I have discussed most of these things before, but man, some of these questions were tough.
When we arrived at Barnes and Noble, we both took off in different directions to begin completing our task. I’m not gonna lie, I did feel a little bit awkward walking around and taking random pictures of books… especially in the children’s section and not having a child with me.
This scavenger hunt lasted about 45 minutes. In that 45 minutes, I really spent a lot of time thinking about Nathan. It allowed me to reflect on what characteristics in life have helped to mold him into who he is today. It also gave me time to appreciate all of the things that make him so unique.
The best part about Barnes and Noble, there’s Starbucks. A hot beverage was just what we needed on this frigid snow day. Nathan ordered a coffee with ample room for cream, and I went with my usual Caramel Macchiato. We found a table in a corner and began to reveal the pictures that we had taken during our scavenger hunt.
So, now I’m sure you’re wondering… what were the questions and what were your answers?!
Question #1: Where would I travel one day?
Nathan said that I would travel to Italy, and I chose Ireland for him. Although he hit mine spot on, his number one choice would be Japan. I was way off… like not even on the same continent off.
Question #2: My Favorite Animal
We were both correct on this question. Nathan said that dachshunds are my favorite, and I went with rescue dogs for him. But really, how can you even pick a favorite?! All fur babies are my favorite.
Question #3: My favorite physical feature on you.
Question #4: My Favorite Food
Well, now you clearly know who has the sweet tooth… and it’s not Nathan.
Question #5: Something that represents my childhood.
Can you guess which one belongs to whom?
I was the child who had her own school house and LOVED playing school. Nathan was the curious child who wanted to know how and why everything worked. We both nailed this question.
Question #6: Something that I’m good at.
You know what I loved about this question? Because it’s so complimentary. How often do you remind someone about something that they’re good at doing?
Question #7: My Favorite Season
This one was tough, because I believe that we both appreciate every season for it’s own beauty. If we did have to pick a favorite, Nathan would choose Fall, and I would choose Spring. We both knew each other pretty well for this question.
Question #8: My Favorite Movie
Nathan was close, but we all know Steel Magnolias is my favorite movie with Fried Green Tomatoes coming in at a close second. I do love Anne of Green Gables, though. And, believe it or not, The Fox and the Hound is Nathan’s favorite movie.
These weren’t all of the questions, but just a few to give you an idea as to how our scavenger hunt was constructed. This idea could be modified in so many ways. So, if you’re looking for something fun *and cheap* to do with your significant other or family, create your own scavenger hunt. It’s also a great way to expose yourself to various types of books that you wouldn’t normally think existed. Happy hunting!
