My Grade One teacher made me change the color of my crayon to my ‘real’ skin color

Whether you grew up in the United States, Brazil or South Africa and sadly many other places in the world, you would very quickly pick up your racial categorization as a child. My mum was a white European and my dad from an Indian minority in South Africa.
