Imagine an eye unruled by man-made laws of perspective, an eye unprejudiced by compositional logic, an eye which does not respond to the name of everything but which must know each object encountered in life through an adventure of perception. How many colors are there in a field of grass to the crawling baby unaware of 'Green’? How many rainbows can light create for the untutored eye? How aware of variations in heat waves can that eye be? Imagine a world alive with incomprehensible objects and shimmering with an endless variety of movement and innumerable gradations of color. Imagine a world before the 'beginning was the word.

Last year I created a publication space called ‘Led Astray’ which was about the meeting of two points/ people together at the edge of their inner horizons, forming a space of negotiation and a birth for transformation.
This space in between has been at the core of my 10 year artistic journey of exploring via Project 5am and Flux Without Pause.
My recent new project Surf/ace 間 is about looking at the spaces between objects with a new eye. The source of this project has come from creations that have emerged from having a fleeting moment of a peak experience at 5am in May 2007
The Surf/ace is a figure an iconoclast that travels into the unknown in search of novelty in order to understand and expand.
間 (MA) is the Japanese term for negative space and is also referred to as a pause or an interval. This term describes the movement action of the Surf/ace
The death of encounter meets the future birth of an encounter.
The Jungian psychologist Erich Neumann writes of it as a representation of the pre-ego “dawn state” and the symbol that captures the essence of this term is the ouroboros, an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail.
The street footage from this video was taken in Feb in Amsterdam where I was attending the Sonic Acts festival. Unaware of the political climate in the country at the time via media sources, it’s cultural surface was telling me its own narrative. The music for Dawn State consists of two BMP that are at both end outside the average heart beat for the human being.

Graduating in 2014 with a BA in Fine Art, Kofi-Haye’s following projects have included ‘Flux Without Pause‘ and Surf/ace which explores the internal external outlines for systems with potential catalysts for transformation.
