The easiest way to import a wallet

Importing your private key is always a complicated procedure, and it can be a scary one at that. This first method is the simplest way to do it from Sheikah desktop application to the myWitWallet application. We will go over some other methods for how to import your wallets later on down the road.

Step 1: Open Sheikah, unlock it with your password, and navigate to the bottom left of the page where you will find the logout button. Hover over it and as you can see, a side panel will open up on the left. Click on the settings button that pops up.

Step 1

Step 2: Encrypt your file with a password. This password will allow anyone with access to it be able to import your XPRV into their own wallet. Make sure you never tell a soul. Tap the encrypt and export button.

Step 2

Step 3: A window will pop up asking you to name the file and choose where to save it. Once you have made your selections click save. Remember where you saved it, we’ll need to navigate to it on the next step. This process should be similar on other operating systems. I’m on Mac.

Step 3

Step 4: Navigate to where you saved the file and open it with a basic or default text editor. All operating systems should come with their own. I used TextEdit but you can also import it into different word processors, like Notes.

Step 4

Step 5: Once the file is opened, copy everything to your clip board that I have copied below. You are going to need everything after the second set of quotes begins to where they end before “birth date”

Step 5

Step 6: You should already have myWitWallet downloaded. If not you can do that here. We are going to click import wallet and then import by XPRV. It will ask you to paste what you just copied from your file into the blank space and type the password you created when you exported the file in step 2 and 3.

Step 6
Step 6

Step 7: Give the wallet a name and description, if you’d like.

Step 7

Step 8: You are going to have to create a new password for access into myWitWallet. This IS NOT your encryption password from earlier.

Congrats! You’ve successfully imported your XPRV into myWitWallet.

How to import your private keys via the security phrase

This is another extremely simple method to importing your private keys, and most likely the only way you will be able to do it if you are going from Sheikah desktop to myWitWallet on your mobile device, or a different device. This method requires you to have your 12 seed words written down and store securely.

Step 1: Navigate to myWitWallet homepage and click Import wallet.

Step 1

Step 2: Click import from security seed phrase

Step 2

Step 3: Read the disclaimers carefully.

Step 4: Type in your 12 seed words.

Step 4

Step 5: Give your wallet a name

Step 6

Step 7: Create a password for your wallet for the device.

You’re done! You’ve successfully migrated your private key over to myWitWallet via your seed phrase.

As myWitWallet grows, we are going to find new and easier ways to import your XPRV into your application on your phone with cool tools like QR code scanning and bluetooth. Stay tuned!
