The month of September saw some great things happen for the Witnet ecosystem, and also some not so great with our Discord hack. Let’s review it together.

We had a jam packed September Community Call with a lot of members joining to hear about the month of September and the self-proclaimed “Summer of Witnet” review of the last 3 months. This monthly roundup will cover just the month of September, if you would like to see the full community call and summer review, check out the recording on YouTube.

2,000,000 Blocks

The Witnet networks successfully reached its 2 millionth block since inception on September 22nd, a massive milestone in the young but powerful life of the oracle. We’re gunning for 4,000,000 next!

Congrats to all the network participants, nodes, miners, and others who helped the network get there!

State of the Ecosystem

The Witnet oracle is currently securing $67,000,000 in total value across all of its chains. This puts the Witnet oracle at 13th with a Mcap/TVS ratio of 12.4. This means that the Witnet oracle secures 12.4x what its market cap is, a pretty impressive feature.

Some exciting community growth metrics showcase that the Witnet community has seen an impressive inflow of new members looking to learn about the oracle. We contribute September’s growth to the birth of the advocate program. Unfortunately, in the middle of September the Discord was hacked, so we saw some people leaving the server for fear of being compromised (totally understandable). However, the hacker wasn’t able to permanently delete the actual server, just the channels so we still retained well over 95% of the community.

The server is back to running as normal and there are no known compromises. Below are some pictures of the Telegram growth for September.

You can also see below here that our Twitter has been seeing a nice increase in engagement, excitement, and total followers.

Advocate Program

The advocate program was a phenomenal success from start to finish. As of community call time, we had 565 total submissions, 177 unique advocates, 132 approved tasks, and 193,800 $WIT paid out. We ran the program 6 total weeks and it officially concluded on the 8th of October. We expect to run the next season in November or December, just before Proof of Stake launches.

Thank you to everyone who participated!

New Chains

In September, we added 2 new chains. Polygon zkEVM mainnet, and Syscoin’s layer 2, Rollux.

Both chains are expected to have new DeFi in the coming months are we’re excited to partner with both these fantastic organizations.

Changelly Integration

As part of our string of exchange-swap integrations, Witnet was integrated on Changelly. Changelly is one of the leading swap exchanges that lets anyone swap in and out of cryptoassets, even if the price pair isn’t available on traditional centralized exchanges. This opens of the $WIT coin to new volume, liquidity, and interest and we’re so excited to see the coin be launched there.

Cross Chain Data Requests

In September, we launched the newest tool for developers looking to leverage decentralized data feeds. Cross Chain Data Requests allow developers to access data on different layer 1s and 2s that can be relayed into their chain and execute smart contracts. This is the first step in a truly interoperable, chain-agnostic world. This development helps programmers access data feeds that were once impossible to access because of the necessity to keep blockchains separate on their own (a feature, not a bug).

Take some time and check out how these work here.

That’s all for this month!

Thank you to everyone who joined the September Community Call. We will be announcing a live stream for our Proof of Stake announcement later this month in October, and we want to hear from the community. Please ask any questions you may have on this form so we can try to get them answered in the live call.
