The Witnet Foundation giving a grant to Dodao.dev
The Witnet Foundation is funding a lucrative project in the DAO space that has the potential to change how DAOs operate day to day within their task management organization.
What is Witnet?
Witnet is a layer one decentralized oracle network that doesn’t rely on trusting nodes through KYC or Proof of Authority, but rather through true cryptoeconomic incentive of staking collateral to ensure nodes have a better economic incentive to tell the truth rather than to lie.
Witnet has a strong cryptoeconomic incentive that is the WIT coin, the coin native to the Witnet blockchain. Because of this nodes are competing for fulfilling data requests and have to post collateral in order to do so. If nodes are dishonest they lose their collateral, if they are honest they earn some more WIT. This ensures the system operates as a level playing field and makes it near impossible to game the system.
Because Witnet is a layer one blockchain network, it is incredibly easy to integrate on new chains and is why Witnet is live on 24 EVM compatible chains at time of this writing. The oracle is securing tens of millions of dollars in value. The foundation grant program is designed to fund projects using Witnet on any of these chains and has funded over $23,000 USD since September.
What is Dodao.dev?
Dodao.dev is a very interesting new take on developer operations; they are trying to improve upon the current workflows and issues developer operations face daily. This work is easily done in normal companies and tracked by leadership, but in DAOs or systems where there is no leadership, how do you track work completion.
Enter Dodao.dev. Dodao.dev is building a protocol and app to allow people to effectively track completed tasks within the blockchain. The whole goal is designed to give power to the “customer” and the “performer” who can negotiate a job, its perks, its completion, and more. When the customer is satisfied with the job they can sign a transaction on-chain and have funds distributed to the performer.
But how does this use Witnet? Dodao.dev is using Witnet to read public APIs from Github to track if a task is completed. This is an entirely new use case for the Witnet oracle, and something that is quite interesting. Since the blockchain is designed to take trust out of specific individuals, it would be fitting for a protocol using that ethos to do the same.
The general workflow is that a “customer” creates a job within the Dodao.dev app and minted on the blockchain and that allows any “performer” to apply for it. The performer completes the job to the satisfaction of the customer, and both can request an audit of the work. This audit is where Witnet would normally come in, as a request would be sent to the Witnet network to see if the job has been completed. If so, release the funds on the blockchain network of the performer’s choice.
Why this is a phenomenal collaboration
This collaboration presents a fantastic opportunity for the Witnet oracle and Dodao.dev. The oracle itself has a new use case that hasn’t been seen before, and the Dodao.dev team have the ability to create a truly unique and exciting protocol that can change how DAOs and individuals do developer operations. This is a problem that has been attempted numerous times both on and off the blockchain, and there is no clear solution. The Witnet Foundation is excited to fund Dodao.dev because it is clear that this is a new way to tackle the problem, one that has the most potential to solve a real world problem.
