Let’s go into a bit more detail.

The Prince

H.R.H Prince Juan (Ioane) Bagrationi of Georgia has branded this wine under his own personal name and is hoping that with this premium fine wine, he can help in some way to boost the prestige and reputation of Georgian fine wine more generally.

“The Bagrationi royal family of Georgia is one of the oldest royal dynasties in the world. The family also has a long history in the Georgian wine industry, where they played a crucial role. Prince Ioane was born and raised in exile in Madrid, Spain. In 2014 he returned to Georgia, his ancestral homeland. Georgia is his passion, and winemaking has become one of the main channels for that passion”.

The wine

The grape is called Usakhelouri, a native grape of Georgia. The wine grapes are grown in a pre-selected vineyard in village Okuresh, in the Lechkhumi region. It has flavours and aromas of forest berries, raspberry and blackberry in particular. The wine is macerated in stainless steel to preserve the fruit-forward flavour, and is cooled before all of the residual sugar is fermented so as to maintain a subtle sweetness that really enhances the flavour and aids in its long term ability to age.

The collection of wine consists of only 100 cases for this vintage, and each case is labelled and has full providence directly from the producer's cellar. Each NFT will be representative of the case number, from 1–100. It is exclusively sourced by WIV so there is quite literally no other way to gain access to this wine, anywhere in the world.

Stalin?

Stalin was a huge proponent of Georgian wines, even serving some of these wines to the US president Roosevelt and U.K. prime minister Winston Churchill in 1945 after the conclusion of the 2nd world war. It is also rumoured that one of his all-time favourites was the Usakhelouri wine. Similar to the wine we are selling here. Stalin was of course relatively famous for his love of wine, and despite the contentious nature of his leadership, it brought a lot of exposure to this corner of the wine world.
