10 Easy Ways To Get Your Children Studying

There are certain principles teachers and parents follow in their roles, though, these principles often overlap and all we need to do is recognise and reinforce.

A parent’s role in their child’s learning evolves as kids grow. One thing however remains constant: we are our children’s learning models. Our attitudes about education can inspire theirs and show them how to take charge of their own educational journey.

Here’s a list of 10 things parents should be doing to aid the educational progress of their children:

1. Be a role model for learning

Parents are their children’s first teachers — like exploring nature, reading together, cooking together, and counting together. When kids begin formal school, the parent’s job is to show them how school can extend the learning process from home, and how exciting and meaningful this learning can be.

2. Pay attention to the best way your child learns

One of the most important things a parent can do is notice what inspires your child. Is your child outgoing or shy? Find out what interests your child has and explore it. This way, you let your child show you the best way he/she learns.

3. Encourage them to read more

Reading widely enhances and encourages success in studies and it’s something that parents can easily encourage from a young age.

4. Tune into how your child learns

By paying attention to how your child learns, you may be able to pique his interest and explain tough topics by drawing pictures together, creating charts, building models, singing songs and even making up rhymes.

5. Invest in additional educational activities

It is important that they have some time to rest and relax, but there also plenty of opportunities out there to help occupy them when they’re not at school, as well as support their main school studies. For example, download educational Apps that will indulge and teach them new things.

6. Set aside time to read together

Read aloud regularly, even to older kids. If your child is a reluctant reader, reading aloud will expose her to the structure and vocabulary of good literature and get her interested in reading more.

7. Connect what your child learns to everyday life

Parents should make learning a part of their child’s everyday experience, especially when it comes out of your child’s natural questions. When you cook together, do measuring math. When you drive in the car, count license plates and talk about different states and tribes, talk about colours, etc.

8. Devise fun ways to test them

As a parent, you can help support your child’s studies by following what they’re learning and setting fun tests at regular intervals to help make sure they’ve learnt it properly.

9. Reward them for good results

Acknowledging your child’s successes is an important part of motivating them and supporting them, so you could implement a reward system for when they bring home top grades or excellent feedback.

10. Help them relax

Time off from studying is very important, this is another easy way that can help you support your child’s studies. Give them some time off from academic discussions, as they need to take time off from studying sometimes. Enjoy quality time together as a family but also let them spend time with their friends or doing things they enjoy, without making them feel guilty for not studying.

We have created an app — WizitUp K12 Learning App — to help kids learn their numeracy (Math), literacy (English) and Sciences. By watching specially crafted cartoons, your kids can learn how to read, count and enjoy their environment.
