A child’s brain goes through an amazing period of development from birth, producing more than a million neural connections each second.

The development of the brain is influenced by many factors, including a child’s relationships, experiences and environment. Parents should learn more about the crucial role they play in building their baby’s brain, get their questions answered, and find some fun “brain-building” activities to share with their little one.

Here is a summary of what scientists know about the brain development of children:

  • Brain development is a combination of genetics and the environment. It is the genes (or what your kid inherited from you) that create the structure of the circuit — but it is the combination of nutrition, the environment, and stimulation that determines how the circuit is “wired” or connected together. Developing the brain is all about wiring it in the most efficient way.
  • Kids are biologically prepared to learn. That is why a 3 year old’s brain is two and a half times more active than an adult’s. It has more synapses (gaps between nerve fibers that makes children more sensitive to learning), and the density of the synapses remain high throughout the first 10 years of life.
  • Brain cell connections (the “wiring” of the brain) are also created when children form attachments to parents, family members, and caregivers.
  • The quality, quantity and consistency of stimulation from your child’s early experiences contribute to the structure of his/her brain and its capacities. The effect of these experiences lasts for the rest of his life.

Parents should be aware about the brain development of their child so that they can understand the crucial role they play in building their child’s mentality. We created the WizitUp K12 Learning App as a mobile app that helps parents engage their kids in brain building activities such as songs and rhymes, math games, English words and cartoons.

You can check out the App here or go to the google playstore on your android devices.
