Begining Of Wizzer Journey

I’ve been making Wizzer for 1.5 years now. Half the year to build a team and the remaining to reach where we have.

To raise or not to raise was a debate and often resolved into — NOT. Because the product that was getting downloaded did not have a vision big enough to need money. The product I imagined, i already had enough money to execute.

Untill 3 months back. Tired of all the bullshitting engineers and entitlement from the 2022 vintage developers i decided to get handson in the team that was really not cranking the product at the speed I was expecting, I took over as TPM and the heat must be real because in a couple of weeks we lost most of the people. But this was also the time future versions of the product started appearing to me. Mainly how the advisory terminal will serve the Quant Investment Advisors. I don’t think there’s anything calling Quant Investment Advisors because you can’t. There’s nothing with which your clients will execute your advice. There’s no way you can manage your Quant Advisory in the RIA format.

As I set about thinking about QIAs, i realised another thing. There’s nothing called Quant Trading Terminal (QTT , cute?) And the good part about pre-PMF product is you can flip quickly. I told Pawan to pull out the advisory terminal’s code such that independent DSS starts operating as Advisory Terminal inside Wizzer and and independent QTT outside it.

He did it. He just gets everything done.

Now the full product vision has arrived. An independent Pro Trading Terminal for Quant crowd with inbuilt data, backtesting, strategy coding, debugging, workflows, monitoring, statistical tools and LLM to make all this accessible to that 15% of the active trading crowd that’s probably overlapping with the 25% of the IT professionals crowd to produce that slice of venn diagram that’s about 300–500,000 people who are just not ok with what they get in their vanilla trading terminal and want more. This venn diagram also overlaps with a sliver of finance professionals in monolith orgs of old era who believe they can do far better for their clients by going solo, if they had something to do all the heavy lifting for analytical factory, regulatory toil and customer service.

I believe in this vision. So much so that the financial model pending for a year got done (almost). Company Secretary got invoked, ESOP plan got finalised and first of the investor gotted.

It was then that i met the first practioner from the space — a Quant Fund Manager and narrated what I’m going to build. I got a thumbsUp from him.

Henceforth I’ll be writting more regularly in the product roadmap section in the spirit of building it in public.
