A decorated player throughout her collegiate career, Coffey ended her senior year averaging a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Along with the impressive stats, Coffey also was the recipient of multiple prestigious accolades in women’s college basketball. These include an All American Honorable mention award in 2016-2017, and the Big 10 First Team all four years of her college career.

The 6'1 forward became the fifth overall draft pick of the 2017 WNBA draft. However, it was not until college that she decided she wanted to take her game to the next level.

“I realized in college that I wanted my basketball career to go beyond college. It wasn’t until the end of my freshman year that I started to pay attention to basketball at higher levels,” Coffey stated.

One player in particular that caught Coffey’s eye was Tamika Catchings.

“It made sense to look up to her because she was a complete player skill wise, was a hard worker and a great teammate,” she explained.

Coffey loved Catching’s style as she was a versatile player that created not only for herself but also for her teammates. On the other side, she was able to lock down on defense and secure rebounds.

The rookie was also able to provide a bit of advice for college current college athletes. She outlined that as a student athlete, life is not easy and finding balance is key.

“Being a student athlete is not easy. My first tip is to take advantage of your resources and ask for help when needed! I always tell people to use tutors, academic advisors, study groups, and office hours regarding academics.”

Coffey also explained the importance of off court and out of class activities.

“Making time for themselves to spend alone, with friends or family should be a priority to help manage the student athlete lifestyle.”

A healthy lifestyle is important for everyone, especially student athletes.

Coffey will enter her second season this coming May. Good luck to her and the San Antonio Stars as they prepare for the new year!
