It is finally fall and that means it is time for football.

Many of us will be watching the game from home, but some will want the full experience and watch the game live in person, some will go for the first time.

For those who are going for the first time, there are some things you might want to know before you go.

Who is this experience for

Before you do attend your first game, it is a good idea to know who this event is for. Who might have an interest in this event? This event is most ideal for people ages 10+. Younger kids might not like the loud atmosphere.

Although it is at your discretion to decide an appropriate age. This is for the fans who truly love and understand football.

It is a great place for that die-hard fan to go crazy for their team. It is also good for someone who is sick of watching the game in front of the TV all the time.

Where should you go for this experience?

The thing about attending a football game is, there are a large number of places to attend this event. It all depends on who or what you want to see.

If you want to see a local high school game, there is most likely going to be a game in your local community on Friday nights. You will find these games in pretty much any city, small and large.

If you want to see a college team, you might have to look a little farther than your hometown. College games are most likely in medium to large cities.

However, if you want to see a pro team, you might have to drive anywhere from a few hours to a day to see out of state teams. Most, if not all NFL games occur in large cities like Chicago and New York.

With 32 NFL teams, hundreds of thousands of college and high school games. You can’t miss out on watching a football game.

What are some essentials?

You might not think that when going to a football game you have to have essential items with you, but in fact, there are many you might not be thinking of.

Tickets

Tickets are probably the most important thing you must have with you. Tickets are used to get you into the stadium.

Different areas of the stadium have different ticket values. This mainly depends on seat location. Is it close to the field or farther away? Prices range from $10 to upwards of $5000+.

When buying tickets, it is always good to check your sources. Some websites are known for selling tickets and are reputable such as StubHub, SeatGeek, and even the team’s direct website.

When using another website, make sure to check that they are legit. Check for reviews or others who have purchased from that website and even the Better Business Bureau. Some websites can scam you out of money and maybe not even send you tickets and can charge a very high price.

Check around for the cheapest price possible.

Travel

When it comes time to travel to your desired game, it is important to figure out the best way to get there.

Most people either decide to drive or travel by plane. I mean hey, you can bike or even walk if you want, it’s up to you.

Driving may be your cheaper, but much slower option. This might be ideal if you are within a few hours away.

You also might consider flying, this is a higher priced but faster option. This is most ideal if you might have more than a day to travel and don’t have the time to drive.

Figure out whatever works for you. Do you want to spend less and take your time or do you want to spend more money and get there faster?

Spending Money

When going to any event, there is always stuff to buy. There are concession stands, merchandise, and memorabilia.

Concessions

Concessions at any sports game can be extremely overpriced. At some places you can buy a novelty soda for $10-$15. Other food items can range from $2-$30.

If you do purchase alcohol, be prepared to spend more,

Merchandise and Memorabilia

At any sports game, there is most likely a team store where you can purchase clothing and different items to rep your team.

You can buy jerseys, shirts, hats, novelty items and signed memorabilia where prices can range from $10-$1000+

If you aren’t willing to spend that much money, you could probably buy the same merchandise for much cheaper somewhere else. However, the franchise needs to make money at the stadium somehow.

What can you do at the stadium and what do they allow

Most stadiums offer plenty of activities but also have restrictions.

Most offer the ability to tailgate outside the stadium. Enjoy the game with friends and family along with plenty of food and excitement without paying the price of admission.

It is also important to pay attention to what rules the stadium has in place. Many allow bags, most likely only one bag per person, and are checked when you enter.

Check your stadium specific policies before you go.

When should you attend a game?

Football season is in the fall and can run into the winter depending on who you see.

When attending a game, one of the main things that you look at is weather.

In the early fall, the weather is pleasant with a temperature around 70 degrees and maybe a slight breeze. Perfect weather for football.

If you don’t want to sit in the freezing cold and snow for a few hours, I recommend not going in December or January.

Make sure to dress appropriately.

It is always important to know what you are getting yourself into. Know what you need is most important

Make your experience one to remember, Take this information and have fun and go cheer on your favorite team.
