Nimmi Ramanujam ● 2019 Social Impact Abie Award Winner

These days, 2019 Social Impact Abie Award Winner Nimmi Ramanujam is harnessing change as a catalyst for innovation in the health tech space. Leading through the lens of equity, Nimmi is attuned to the vital role that women play not only in creating movements and shifting paradigms, but also in being key decision makers on issues involving women’s health. She agrees that now is the time to think holistically about approaches to complex problems.

“Innovation is vital because that is our lifeline, it is how we will overcome this virus and so many other pressing issues of today”

Since winning the 2019 Abie Award, Nimmi was recognized for advances in cervical cancer cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. The Michael S. Feld Biophotonics award honors reputable leaders in biophotonics, and due to her technological contributions to women’s health, she was the 2020 award recipient.

Nimmi also continues leading the charge against cervical cancer through an organization she co-founded to address the gaps of sexual and reproductive healthcare for women globally — Women-Inspired Strategies for Health (WISH) Revolution. The WISH project has recently been selected by the MacArthur foundation for a $100 million grant allowing for greater tools and resources to reduce the cervical cancer inequity gap for women everywhere.

“Winning the Abie award reminded me of the power of women in tech — just how many women are eager to disrupt a male-dominated industry not only to be innovators and problem solvers but to shift the paradigm of male-centric technologies.”
