Janet builds internal tools at Facebook that make sense of all of the data collected. She teaches engineers how to use the tools and enjoys making their jobs easier. She’s taught more than half of the engineers at Facebook and has previously worked at Stanford University, DEC, Compaq, and Hewlett-Packard. She says “the thing I like about building systems is there are always new challenges because the scale keeps changing”. Janet’s work computer today has more than a million times more memory than her first computer! Janet’s advice is to “exercise to handle failure” and “always remember the big picture”.
