Software Developer · Andela, TechInPink

“I’ve always enjoyed taking things apart, figuring out how they worked and then putting them back together again. I was introduced to computer at a very early. I remember opening my first yahoo account when I was barely 12 years and this was the era when the Internet was not a luxury as it is now. Even though I earned a degree in Computer Science from the University of Ilorin. But really I started learning how to program after I graduated — it’s not too late, you know!”

“Now I work as a Software Developer at Andela with distributed teams in tech companies across the globe. I’ve built several amazing applications aimed at providing solutions to problems in my society. The one I love most is ‘Ayewa’ — an application aimed at solving accommodation problems for students within a geographical region.”

“I co-founded TechInPink where we post tutorials, talk about technology and write inspirational posts to encourage more women to venture into programming. Over the last few weeks, we organized a start-from-scratch event in Nigeria and Kenya strictly for girls to teach them HTML, CSS and Javascript. We hope to organize more of this event, to bridge the gender inequality in tech. Our mission is to inspire and encourage more women into tech and create a path for their career goals. We strongly believe that having diversified views of issues in the provides avenues for creativity. We are planning to launch a mentorship path for ladies in universities/college who are interested in programming.”

“When I started learning how to code, at some point, I felt it wasn’t for me and that I couldn’t handle it. The fact that I have always wanted to make life better for people has pushed me past several stumbling blocks and challenges which I have encountered. I have come to realize that if you have a strong passion for what you do, you will find out that even in the most challenging situations there will be within you a capacity to find a solution to it. Find your passion, work hard and diligently at it. See you at the top!”
