Regina Kgatle · Senior · University of Cape Town
Regina first realized the power of computer science in grade school when she came across an Encyclopedia Encarta CD. She was amazed by how the CD encapsulated all of the information easily. She started taking computer classes in high school and continued in University of Cape Town where she studies Electrical and Computer Engineering. Regina recognized an opportunity to combine her passion for coding and environmentalism at her parents gaming arcade, when she noticed that the parents of the kids who frequented the arcade would complain about the kids spending too much time playing games instead of learning. She built Educade, an educational arcade machine made of e-waste and recycled materials. Regina has persevered through seas of naysayers. Potential investors told her she was too ambitious for her ideas and would not fund her. Regina says that these “challenges served as a motivation”. We can’t wait to see what else she builds!
