Systers @ Google I/O Conference 2013
The Google I/O conference is without a doubt a premiere technical conference where the tickets are hard to come by. Registration opened promptly at 7am PDT on March 13th and it sold out in 49 minutes! Unbelievable! Google approached AnitaB.org with an opportunity for our community to receive 2 complimentary tickets and 2 guaranteed registration tickets for their Google I/O conference.

Jennifer Argüello, a Silicon Valley native and dual citizen of Costa Rica and the United States, is a speaker and thought leader on women in technology and Latinos in STEM. She has a background in programming that includes a BS in Computer Science from UC San Diego and over a decade of experience in technology companies creating products from mobile apps to the first Xbox Kinect device. In 2011, she co-founded Latino Startup Alliance, a group to advance Latinos in tech entrepreneurship. She also consults with early-stage startups on product and technology and mentors high school girls in the tech entrepreneurship program Technovation Challenge. Jennifer is active on the alumni advisory board for the Computer Science and Engineering Department at UC San Diego; Latinas in Computing, an affinity group for AnitaB.org; and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Jennifer has won much industry recognition, recently being named a 2013 Silicon Valley Latino 40 under 40 Latinos2Watch in Science and Technology, 2011 Femmeonomics Top 50 Women to Watch in Tech2010; and 2010 National Association of Professional Women: Professional Woman of the Year. Her philosophy is to make every day count and earn your time on earth by adding value to it.
Umit Yalcinalp is a seasoned technology leader with 18+ years of experience. Architect who is skilled in end2end architecture of complex systems, who can play both at the strategic & conceptual layers as well as at the delivery details. Passionate about product design and bringing the user perspective to the design and development. Named as one of the “5 Women Tech Leaders that you should follow on Twitter” by Jo Miller at the website of AnitaB.org of Women and Technology in 2010. Served as an evangelist for Force.com platform advocating Platform as a Service at many national and international venues. Managed a team focused on Web2.0 technologies for enterprise application platforms, in particular data oriented services and enterprise mashups using dynamic languages and Ruby DSLs prior to becoming an evangelist. Expert in Cloud Computing, Platform as a Service, Software as a Service, SOA, Author of a SOA book; editor of and contributor to well known WS-*, Java, SOA specifications. Leads teams in building products in this space.

Wendy Chih-wen Kan is a software engineer at Genentech. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University, Taiwan and her Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Wendy is actively involved in various women in computing societies. She co-founded Women in Computing Group at Genentech, and participates in Grace Hopper Conference, She’s geeky, PyLadies, DevelopHer hackathon, and various San Francisco based women in tech groups. She also serves as a mentor for young women in tech. She has a special passion for everyday hacks such as personal health records and analyses.
When she’s not in front of a computer, Wendy likes to be outdoors. She is also an active triathlete and loves riding her bike.
Jenny Williamson joined Rockmelt 3 years ago after getting her degree in Digital Humanities from Stanford. As a member of the backend engineering team, she’s worked on a variety of projects, including writing their image processing and text & image extraction systems. Recently, Jenny became involved in client side development as well, helping to bring Rockmelt to Android.
