Wolf Pack What reporter Karolina Rivas sat down with Associated Students of University of Nevada, Reno presidential candidate Alex Crupi to discuss his campaign. Crupi discussed diversity, gender-neutral restrooms, sanctuary campus, and Coffin and Keys.

Crupi has been involved with ASUN when he first started as a student ambassador in 2013. He became the College of Engineering Senator in 2015.

Crupi emphasized his focus on safety for students in the current political climate and recent student protests concerning a sanctuary campus.

“Students should not be afraid to go to events. Students should not be in fear that if they attend a University function, that they’re then going to be deported.” Crupi said. “Everyone should be feeling safe on campus, no matter their immigration status, their nationality, religion, etc.”

Crupi also expressed his concern towards secret society Coffin and Keys.

“I don’t agree with a lot of the things that Coffin & Keys says or does and, in my opinion, if you’re gonna put something out there, if you’re gonna say something, if you’re gonna be critical of someone […]” Crupi said. “There’s a difference between criticism and putting someone down and constructive criticism and trying to better them.”

Crupi is running against Noah Teixeira for President, whose campaign has been shrouded in controversy. Texieria got into hot water after a series of offensive tweets were found from 2014.

Presidential debates are on March 14 at 7:30 pm in the Joe Crowley Student Union.

ASUN general elections will take place on March 15.
