If you have not visited to the E.L. Wiegand Fitness Center, you are missing out on a tremendous gym. The fitness center has been open since Feb. 13.

The University of Nevada, Reno broke ground on Wiegand on June 17, 2015. Before that, the space acted as University parking. Weigand replaces Lombardi Fitness Center as the main center for students. The fitness center is thrice the size of Lombardi. University of Nevada, Reno Fitness Director, Jim Fitzsimmons noted the grand size of Wiegand.

“Just from where we’re standing is one tremendous amount of space. Right? Five dumbbell training bays, previously we had a single training bay.”

The training bays are not the only massive addition to the University’s fitness program. The $47 million facility boasts a fitness staircase, seven group fitness rooms, and a myriad of weight lifting equipment, to name a few. Wiegand offers drop in classes, such as yoga, Zumba, and CrossFit.

The fourth floor of Wiegand offers a three lane, 1/8th mile track. There are also areas to stretch and shelves for belongings.

Additionally, the basement of Wiegand adds 88 parking spots to the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex.

Wiegand is included in student fees, so any student with a Wolf Card can use it. The university increased student fees by $30 to cover students’ membership. Lombardi previously cost $80 a semester.

Lombardi’s pool, racquetball courts and classrooms will remain open to all students. Former Wolf Pack basketball player Ramon Sessions has donated $1 million to renovate Lombardi to become an advanced training facility for the University’s basketball and swimming teams.

Wiegand is open 6 am to midnight on weekdays, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
