Let’s not offload this work to the user [short design critique]
Today I’ve updated my iPad Pro to iOS 12. Now, I’m happy to admit that it’s only a 32GB iPad and I’m also happy to admit that I’m kind of an app hoarder, so yes, it’s quite full.
Therefore I was worried there wouldn’t be enough space to install the iOS software update. But it turns out that this is not a problem at all and instead of just telling me to free up space myself manually, Apple informs me about the situation and offers to handle it all by itself.
As you can see, Apple then simply and temporarily removes some apps, installs the newest iOS version, and then reinstalls the removed apps — all without any data being lost.
Finally a solution which does not offload the work to the user but instead handles it in a transparent and intelligent way by itself to deliver a great and seamless user experience.
PS. This is no new functionality of iOS 12. I looked around a bit and found out that it was first introduced in iOS 9 and then refined in iOS 10. Still love it.
