At long last, the new Spielworks Whitepaper is here.

This includes full details on the launch of $PLAI, and our goals and aspirations as we head into 2025.

You can view our full whitepaper here: https://spielworks.gitbook.io/spielworks-whitepaper

Let’s look back at the past few months. Q3 is nearing its end, and we’re both excited and somewhat frustrated about our results over this period.

Having embraced a new path, we were met with a lot of constraints — some internal (like reorganization, evaluation of our business model, and fundraising efforts) and some external (like the state of the market) — that made us wary about the potential outcomes, first and foremost for you, but also for us as a company.

On top of this, a few critical issues have diluted our focus. This has been a taxing experience, and we know this reflected on our products and you as their users. For that, we apologize — we share your frustrations about the lack of technical performance.

The good news is that the path forward is a lot clearer — how we run the organization, the necessary structural changes, and how we envision our part in both your success and that of the ecosystem.

All of that is reflected in our new whitepaper. We anticipate, understandably, that it will raise some questions, which we’ve tried to answer below.

Q3 2024 deliverables

Q3 was a turbulent time for us at Spielworks and for you, our community. We moved quickly with Tapmonsters, which brought a capital influx, but shifted focus away from products like Dungeon Worlds and, to a limited extent, Chainmonsters.

With this shift, we were able to complete:

  • The release of the social feed in Wombat
  • The release of the Tapmonsters Telegram game
  • Internal proofs-of-concept for the Wombot AI companion and DePIN integration
  • The full whitepaper

Partially fulfilled or nearing completion are:

  • Votes on key Dungeon Master developments
  • The full Chainmonsters wiki

The wiki requires minor adjustments on the $MONSTER tokenomics, after following last week’s major Telegram game airdrops. We also want to space our news items out a bit and hope to present this to you next week.

In spite of this progress, we failed to deliver on several key roadmap items. After much discussion and calculated assessments, we’d like to share our reasoning with you.

Why did we miss some Q3 roadmap items?

External factors

CR01

We envision CR01s as a practical implementation of our ‘identity’ pillar. They are conduits of self-expression, displaying your achievements, interests and allegiances across games and networks.

Through our funding efforts and market research, we were met with a hard truth — there is little to no market for a product such as CR01s right now. Existing player identity products are more along the lines of ‘gamified KYC’, with little to support the potential we see in CR01s.

Releasing CR01s in a limited capacity — for example as NFT avatars in Wombat, or a generative art collection — paints a grim picture for their success and long-term value.

We’re continuing to explore some of our ideas around a V1 CR01 launch — including a Telegram game, story-driven experiences and more — and continue to pitch CR01s in future partnerships and investment calls. As time moves on, we hope to enter a landscape conducive to a more promising launch, with long-term success in mind.

DePIN

Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePIN) technology has amassed significant interest this year, alongside AI.

To us, the two seemed like a natural fit for our ecosystem moving forward, but after much research — looking at around 25 different solutions for DePIN nodes within Wombat — we were unable to find a solution without putting significant risks on both us and you.

Without getting into too many details, there are major technical and legal issues surrounding the creation, participation and regulation of DePIN networks. The technology, and the environment around it, is not yet mature enough for us to be comfortable with providing these services to you in both a beneficial and legally secure way.

We will continue to watch the progression of the DePIN industry, and will keep our eyes peeled for opportunities for a feasible DePIN implementation that is less risky, more practical and more secure for you.

Internal factors

Dungeon Worlds

With Max and Lysander joining our team, Spielworks has the gamedev expertise to fulfil our ideas for Dungeon Worlds — once the studio scales up.

Simultaneously, Tapmonsters proved to be promising — based on user numbers, conversions and feedback from potential investors. This has given us a new avenue for our game business, and we had to strike whilst the iron was hot to grow our potential and partner network for future game titles.

With the restructuring and urgent fixes we had to deploy, we had no choice but to shift priorities to the most critical parts of our business, and where we could have the most success — and that included hitting pause on Dungeon Worlds for now.

Will this affect Q4 2024 deliverables?

Taking all of this into account, we acknowledge that some items scheduled for Q4 may be delayed. The most likely candidates are:

  • CR01 launch — for the reasons outlined above.
  • Wombot AI companion — after a lot of experimentation, we were unsatisfied with our internal proof-of-concept. Rather than a fully in-house product, we are exploring licensed solutions to create a better, faster and more effective experience for you. We are exploring potential partners for this and will provide more details when we can.
  • Training data marketplace — our initial plan was to base this on AtomicHub’s existing architecture, but the recent technical problems have made us reassess. We’re considering the most effective way to move forward with development.
  • Dungeon Worlds V1.0 — our studio team is growing (with two new members added already), but we need it to grow further to accomplish our vision for Dungeon Worlds.
  • Chainmonsters Gen1 launch — similar to Dungeons Worlds V1.0, our studio team needs time to bond, grow and deliver. Quality is our #1 priority with our games, and we’ll be devoting more time to playtesting specific gameplay mechanics to ensure we’re happy before a full public release.

We have moved each of these items to our H1 2025 list in our roadmap. We may complete some of these items ahead of that period — but we’d rather that be a positive surprise than a missed deadline.

There is a silver lining — some of the deliverables we mapped out for Q4 are already nearing completion.

What Q4 deliverables are close to completion?

Here is where we’ve made the most progress ahead of Q4:

  • $PLAI — technical aspects of the token, including airdrop logic, is mapped out in the whitepaper. We have been actively engaging with exchanges to support the merge and preparing communications to support its launch. $PLAI will inherit $WOMBAT’s utility, with more AI-specific use cases to arrive in the future. More details soon.
  • PlayMind website — requires only minimal touch-ups prior to deployment.
  • Spielworks rebranding — requires only minimal checks prior to deployment.

In conclusion

We do not expect Q4 to be all sunshine and rainbows — but we head into it with excitement, clarity and optimism.

Restructuring our teams internally will undoubtedly deliver better results moving forward, but it will come at the cost of speed across the next few months. We want to be transparent with you on this — it’s short-term pain for long-term gain.

Once these processes are complete, we’ll be in a great position to accelerate our development and thrive in the future. Further adjustments may be required, and we will keep you updated through our monthly summaries, monthly Community Connect streams, and weekly Tavern events.

As always, we thank you for your continued support. We continue to do our best — and we hope that in three months’ time, the next quarterly update will bring a sense of pride, achievement and excitement in the future of Spielworks.
