Dear Dungeoneers,

After being in the works for a long time, we’re thrilled to finally present the Genesis Characters for Dungeon Worlds!

The characters in the Genesis Edition will come in 10 different types and five different rarities, making up a total of 50 different character NFTs. Each type will have its own genetics, determining how well-suited a character will be or become for a certain task. Let’s take a closer look at those!

Genetics

The genetics are “Swift”, “Smart”, “Strong” and “Tenacious”, and each wombat character will carry two of these. It’s possible for a character to have a genetic trait doubled, so the following combinations of genetics make up for the 10 different types of characters because the order doesn’t matter:

  • Rush: {swift, swift}
  • Trickster: {swift, smart}
  • Gambit: {swift, strong}
  • Samurai: {swift, tenacious}
  • Brainiac: {smart, smart}
  • Dreamboat: {smart, strong}
  • Tactician: {smart, tenacious}
  • Berserk: {strong, strong}
  • Juggernaut: {strong, tenacious}
  • Guts: {tenacious, tenacious}

Each type will have its own looks and advantages:

  • Tenacious types will have a longer career span in the dungeons
  • Smart types will gain experience faster from training
  • Strong types will be more effective in mining
  • Swift types will be able to breed faster

Attributes

In addition to genetics, characters will be able to level up and improve their attributes. Characters have four mutable character attributes:

  • Speed
  • Power
  • Intelligence
  • Endurance

Each character starts out with 10 points on each of the attributes and, upon each level up, will gain two points on each attribute, plus an extra point for their genetic strengths:

  • Swift types will get an extra point for Speed
  • Strong types will get an extra point for Power
  • Smart types will get an extra point for Intelligence
  • Tenacious types will get an extra point for Endurance

In case a character has a double genetic trait, it will get two extra points on the respective attribute.

Example: A Berserk (strong, strong) type will gain 4 Power with each level-up and 2 on the other attributes.

The maximum level for a wombat character will depend on their rarity:

  • Common wombats will have a maximum level of 35
  • Rare wombats will have a maximum level of 50
  • Epic wombats will have a maximum level of 65
  • Legendary wombats will have a maximum level of 80
  • Mythic wombats will have a maximum level of 100

Age, max age and wombat “careers”

Each wombat character will have an age and a maximum age. The maximum age will mostly depend on the rarity of the wombat:

  • Common wombats will have a maximum age of 3
  • Rare wombats will have a maximum age of 4
  • Epic wombats will have a maximum age of 5
  • Legendary wombats will have a maximum age of 6
  • Mythic wombats will have a maximum age of 7

The age will increase by 1 for each season the wombat is assigned to a dungeon, so their maximum age determines the maximum number of seasons (“career length”), after which the wombat will retire. Upon retirement, wombats will no longer be able to run in dungeons, but they could still find a place in some of the other functionalities of Dungeon Worlds.

Features, features, features

In the upcoming weeks and months, we’ll be launching the first functions of Dungeon Worlds, which will utilize the characters and start interacting with one another. Characters will have to be staked to engage in any of these activities, so no character will be able to mine and breed or train simultaneously.

Mining

In Mining, players can stake a Dungeon Worlds land and a character to have that character mine the resources from the land. Each Mining process will require one land and one character to be staked.

The material type which is getting mined will be the material that is available on the land itself. The mining output will depend on the character’s Power attribute and the mined material, with Coal being the most abundant and Gold the rarest, similar to the material harvesting output within Dungeon Master. The output of a level 1 wombat on a land tile will correspond to at least the amount of material it could harvest in Dungeon Master with 100 NFTs of the respective material type staked doing 1-hour runs.

The output of the mining since the last claim can be claimed at any point in time and will be credited to the Dungeon Master material balance until Dungeon Worlds launches.

Mining is scheduled to launch in March 2023, only weeks after the first character drop.

Training

In Training, your wombats will be able to gain experience from, well, working out.

In order to train a wombat, the character will have to be staked by the player. Wombats remain in the training mode by default, and the player will be able to “claim” the result. If the XP reaches the threshold needed to level up, the training will automatically be paused until the XP gets claimed and the wombat leveled up.

The number of wombats that each player can train simultaneously will be limited and expandable over time.

Training is scheduled to launch in April 2023.

Breeding

The last relevant part of a great character economy will be Breeding. In Breeding, two parent wombats will be able to create offspring.

In order to breed, a player will have to stake two wombats in Breeding. Since Genesis characters don’t have a gender, there won’t be a “mom wombat” and “dad wombat”; they will both be parents. Both parents need to have the same rarity in order to breed, and they will be locked in the breeding smart contract for the duration of their breed.

As a next step, breeding triggers by paying a fee in WOMBAT tokens. Once that is done, the process will start and automatically finish after the average breeding durations of the two parent wombats. Once the breeding time is up, the offspring wombat will be minted into the player’s wallet. It will inherit one of the genetic traits from each parent to become its own type.

Both the parents’ breeding times will increase upon each successful breed so that great “breeding sources” cannot breed an unlimited number of offspring.

Each wombat’s breeding time will be individual and initially depend on the rarity of the wombat — the rarer they are, the longer it takes them to breed offspring.

Since nature isn’t always predictable, the rarity of the offspring will not always match the rarity of the parents.

We are very excited to see what wombats you will all get, what build you will be aiming for and how you’ll start your Dungeon Worlds journey together! As always, we appreciate your feedback and hope your Genesis Characters won’t disappoint you!
