Wiki Reveals — Combat
Hello everyone! We are beyond excited to tell you more about the building blocks of your adventure in Chainmonsters. First, we’d like to thank everyone for voting on this, there were so many of you! Per your vote, the first core mechanic we will be covering is Combat.
Entering a battle
In Chainmonsters, there are plenty of scenarios that will test your combat skills. Ancora itself, as well as other fellow players, will use any chance they can to throw you off your game. In practice, this would look like this:
- PvE: Player vs Environment — random encounters, NPC/Story battles and challenges.
- PvP: Player vs Player — friendly non-competitive battles and the Arena leaderboard
Upon engagement, the first two Chainmons from your squad will enter the battlefield. With both you and your opponent choosing your first moves, the battle begins.
Fighting
On every turn, you have five options to select from:
- Attack — choose a Chainmon and their ability to (attempt to) deal damage
- Swap — pull one of the Chainmons off the battlefield and replace it with another
- Use item — employ your inventory to heal or boost your Chainmons. You will also need this action to attempt to capture a wild Chainmon.
- Rest — do not engage and sit this turn out to replenish some of your Chainmons’ stamina.
- Flee — if you feel that your opponent is too strong, you may attempt to escape.
How effective attacks and fleeing attempts are depends on a range of factors. These include the levels of all combatants, their natures, weather conditions and other modifiers. Chainmons’ traits influence all of these actions — so you will need to be strategic about your lineups!
Rewards
If you successfully finish a battle, you will be rewarded with XP and other loot that may include usable items, crafting materials and so on. Additional prizes apply for Arena encounters.
