CBS Orders Pilot from Katie Couric and Jenny Lumet
We all know Katie Couric as a respected veteran TV journalist and producer. And now we’ll know her as a TV drama series executive producer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CBS has ordered a drama pilot she’s serving as co-executive producer on.
Written by Jenny Lumet (“Rachel Getting Married,” the future “Valley Girl” musical), the untitled project “follows an elite team of investigators for the Northeast Regional U.S. Hate Crimes Unit who solve a myriad of crimes against humanity as they confront their own biases,” THR summarizes.
Along with Couric, David Marshall Grant, Alex Kurtzman, and Heather Kadin are set to executive produce. The project hails from CBS TV Studios.
This is Couric’s first scripted series, but isn’t her only narrative project. THR writes that Couric is also an executive producer on Lifetime’s “Flint.” Starring Cher, this upcoming TV movie is about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
Until previously, Couric has been giving most her non-news attention to documentaries like “Fed Up” (2014) and “Under the Gun” (2016), both helmed by Stephanie Soechtig, and the upcoming “Gender Revolution” from National Geographic.
Couric is currently an anchor for Yahoo/ABC News.
