Floria Sigismondi to Direct Adaptation of Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw”
Floria Sigismondi will once again make her way from the music scene to the big screen. Deadline has just announced that “The Runaways” helmer is set to direct “The Turning,” a new film from Amblin Entertainment.
Written by brothers Chad and Carey Hayes (“The Conjuring” franchise), “The Turning” is a very loose adaptation of Henry James’ “The Turn of the Screw.” The 1898 ghost novella follows a 19th century governess who is haunted by the predecessors of her current workplace.
Sigismondi made her feature directorial debut with “The Runaways” starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. This biographical film is about an all-girl 1970s rock band and explores the relationship between Joan Jett (Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Fanning). It premiered at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
The director’s other credits are predominantly music videos. She has worked with everyone from Rihanna to David Bowie. Sigismondi recently helmed two episodes of “The Handmaid’s Tale” and the season finale of “American Gods.”
“The Turning” will begin production sometime next year.
