Priyanka Chopra is developing a comedy series about a former Bollywood star for ABC, Variety has revealed. The “Baywatch” actress — who is of course a Bollywood star herself — made history when she became the first South Asian to headline an American network series in ABC thriller “Quantico.” The actress and producer is staying at the network for her latest project, which is set to be penned by Hollywood and Bollywood writer Sri Rao.

The as-yet untitled single-camera series will “follow a former Bollywood star who settles down in the suburbs of America with her bi-cultural family and tries to bring her colorful lifestyle to an otherwise dull town,” according to Variety. The series is based on the life of popular Bollywood star Madhuri Dixit, who will serve as executive producer on the show.

Chopra is no stranger to developing, having found the time to produce several features through her Purple Pebble Pictures label while starring in “Quantico.” (Purple Pebble’s debut picture, family drama “Ventilator,” won three Indian National Film Awards). Before that, the actress served as a producer on 2013 girls’ education documentary “Girl Rising.”
