Sharon Horgan Signs Overall Deal With Amazon Studios
“Catastrophe” co-creator and star Sharon Horgan will be sticking around Amazon for the foreseeable future. Deadline reports that the Emmy nominee has inked an overall deal with the streamer. Amazon Studios also signed a first-look deal with Horgan and Clelia Mountford’s media company, Merman. The latter agreement “gives the studio first-look rights to Merman concepts to which Horgan is attached and remake rights to Merman-produced television series.”
“Sharon Horgan is one of the sharpest and most engaging actresses, writers, and directors working in television today,” stated Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series, Amazon Studios. “We are thrilled she is expanding her collaboration with us at Amazon to create new groundbreaking content. Her strong creative voice and storytelling sensibility have resonated with audiences globally and will make for outstanding shows.”
“Amazon is at the forefront of groundbreaking television and Merman is delighted to be part of their remit to create unique content,” added Horgan and Mountford. “The team at Amazon have supported us since the inception of ‘Catastrophe’ and we are thrilled to be working together. Also all the free books and stuff is great.”
Created and written by Horgan and co-star Rob Delaney, “Catastrophe” traces the evolving relationship between characters Sharon (Horgan) and Rob (Delaney). The pair decide to commit when their one-week fling results in an unexpected pregnancy. The series’ fourth season is expected to air sometime this year.
Horgan also created the HBO series “Divorce,” which just returned for its second season. She co-created and starred in the mid-aughts’ “Pulling” and co-created BBC Two comedy “Motherland.” You can see Horgan next in “Game Night,” in which a group of friends meet up for a night of board games and end up in a murder mystery. The comedy hits theaters February 23.
In addition to “Catastrophe” “Divorce,” and “Motherland,” Merman is behind series like “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” and the upcoming double-life comedy “Bliss.”
Amazon Studios also has overall deals with “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s” Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino and “Transparent’s” Jill Soloway.
