DeFi Jobs: The Soft Skills Perspective

I’ve always been one to dislike the normal 9–5 jobs, I grew up to everyone around me doing.

Although I did my best to finish my studies and graduate as one of the best students in my department, I knew deep down, that wasn’t the path I wanted to take.

DeFi Jobs: The Soft Skills Perspective

I acquired knowledge about Blockchain technology, and subsequently delved into the realm of Decentralized Finance.

Remarkably, I managed to proactively engage with the subject matter, simultaneously staying attuned to the latest developments within the field. While doing this, I was able to pick some skills along the way through courses I took online, which made me stay ahead of my peers. Due to this, an opportunity presented itself for me to showcase all I’d learnt, and I didn’t fail to deliver.

Prior to this, I’d never worked for any corporate organisation whether in the Web2 space, or Web3 space, aside when I worked for a Microfinance bank back in 2018 for less than 24hrs (I didn’t go back after Day 1 cause 9–5 really wasn’t for me).😫 I didn’t have a proper training on how to behave in the corporate space (it was 100% remote), as even though it was a Web3 company, I still needed to stay on top of my game, as my Web3 knowledge really wasn’t enough to secure my role.

While technical skills are vital, the importance of these skills even when you’re working for a DeFi or a CEFI brand cannot be overlooked.

It was thanks to the training I took through @Jobbermandotcom back in 2020 that I was able to navigate this new environment I’d found myself.

Let’s explore how these skills have helped me attain success in this dynamic field, and even still helping me. 👇

5 IMPORTANT SOFT SKILLS

Here are 5 Must-Have Soft skills you’ve been sleeping on🥱

  1. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Did you know sustainable jobs can be gotten from proper communication?Your recruiter can’t perceive value because you have failed at effectively communicating what you can do.

You can’t seal that deal, because you can’t communicate.
Switch up the “Hi’s” to “Value-oriented sentences”.

Even when you’re already working, you also need this skill to clearly articulate ideas, strategies and proposals within your team. It can help you explain complex DeFi and Web3 concepts to non-experts in the space.

For community managers, it can also help you communicate project updates, milestones and future plans for the community you’re managing.

2. ADAPTABILITY

Being adaptable allows you to embrace change, learn quickly, & stay ahead in a space where innovation is the norm.

There will always be uncertainties. Adaptability helped me stay composed, pivot when necessary, & find opportunities in everything.

The DeFi landscape evolves rapidly, with new protocols and trends emerging frequently. New skills become relevant. An adaptable individual can quickly acquire these skills, enhancing your professional profile, and staying ahead of the curve.

3. TIME MANAGEMENT

The fast-paced nature of DeFi demands efficient time management.

Juggling multiple tasks, deadlines, and projects while staying organized is crucial to delivering high-quality results in this competitive landscape.

No matter the role you’re going for, you need to effectively learn to manage your time, to help you strike a balance between work & personal life, preventing burnout and maintaining long-term productivity. It also helps in identifying the most critical tasks and prioritizing them based on their impact on project success and overall goals.

Properly managed time allows for thorough risk assessment & mitigation strategies, reducing the likelihood of rushed decisions.

4. A PROBLEM SOLVING ATTITUDE

This has always been one of the major things that differentiated me from my colleagues; the ability to always think of informed decisions through my research and constant analysis.

A problem-solving mindset has always helped me anticipate potential risks, devise risk management strategies, and proactively address vulnerabilities. This can only be possible when you stay informed, and you’re sure of what you’re doing.

5. A COLLABORATIVE MINDSET

If you must work full time for any project (DeFi or not), you’ll have to work in a team.

A collaborative mindset fosters effective teamwork, ensuring that each team member’s skills are harnessed for the project’s success.

A collaborative team can collectively assess risks, strategize risk mitigation plans, and share responsibility for successful execution. You need to be able to keep good relationships with your colleagues to have a healthy work environment, and be more productive.

Hard skills + Soft skills = No boundaries🚀
Now you know better! Its high time for you to seal those deals, and get yourself promoted on that job. 😉

Master these soft skills and open doors to endless possibilities.
